Resin Incense and How to Use Them
What is resin incense?
Resin incense is the sap or resinoids extracted from several different tree and plant species. These resins when burned create a fragrant smoke.
Resin incense has been used in many religious and spiritual practices for centuries. Some use it for an aid in meditation. It can be used to help repel negative energies, offer protection, and healing.
The most common and easiest way to burn resin incense in my opinion is done using charcoal tablets.

How to Burn incense resin
- Get your resin burner. You can use a burner made specifically for resin, a cast iron cauldron or pot, or a soapstone dish.
- Prepare your burning container by adding a healthy layer of ash or I prefer to use sand. This will help to insulate from the extreme heat generated from the burning charcoal. Make sure to not place your container directly on or near highly flammable surfaces or objects.
- Hold the charcoal tablet with a set of metal tongs. Light the charcoal using matches or a lighter. It will spark and crackle don't be alarmed it's doing what it should. After that mostly stops you can now place it in the container. The charcoal will become extremely hot very quickly.
- Once the charcoal tablet is burning and starting to show a little white ash you can add your resin. Simply sprinkle a little of the powder or a few small pieces of the resin onto the charcoal. Start with a very small amount at first it can produce quite a bit of smoke. Once you have an understanding of how much smoke is produced you can adjust the amount you add to produce the desired effect.
- You can also try experimenting with adding different types of resin together or adding different materials. Such as sage, palo santo, or other herbs.
- Do not remove or throw out anything from your burner until it has stopped burning and has had plenty of time to cool completely.
